The project Live Your Career will start in October, 2017, lasting for 6 months, at Braga, Portugal. Since the headquarters of our association (Portuguese Association for Career Development) is located at the University of Minho, the majority of the activities will take place nearby. It is our mission to promote and develop career interventions based on scientific knowledge, as well as to verify their efficacy and, at last, to disclose this interventions to others involved in the vocational psychology and career development.
The main goals of Live Your Career are to support young people developing skills of career self-management and, consequently, allow them to share their experience. Their experiences will be valuable to promote the skills of career self-management to other youngsters.
We would like to receive 2 participants, one from Bulgaria and another from Poland. The APDC will welcome youths who are motivated and interested in participating in a social and educational project of significant impact in the local community. The APDC will value youths’ communication skills, initiative, creativity, teamwork and interest in implementing activities with young people.
The main activities are:
1) Editorial support - help with the translation of specific vocabulary.
2) Periodic team meetings - exchange of ideas and presentations about each member's work.
3) Vocational information sessions to students - presence in schools and job/educational fairs.
4) Self-awareness workshops - practical sessions to reflect about the past, the present and construct a future life/career project.
5) Disclosure of the APDC - presence at scientific events.
6) Intercultural career debates - discussion of legislative papers concerning different cultures.
7) Promotion of interculturality - exchange of cultural background and experiences with other peers.
8) Production of vocational information - writing newsletters with their own knowledge.
The APDC's participation in this mobility project intends to promote an educational experience to the volunteers while they are outside their native country.
At the end of this project, the APDC would like the participants to understand and establish a small dialogue, based on simple phrases in order to satisfy their concrete needs, in Portuguese. At the organizational level, the APDC intends to provide this mobility experience to junior members.
Through the use of non-formal education tools, the APDC believes that this project will provide new opportunities and will have a very positive impact on volunteers’ personal and professional development. This will encourage the participation of many young people in these mobility programs, as they are an excellent way to promote social responsibility and a source of knowledge, skills and competences for both volunteers and the host organization.
The APDC believes that this project may also be useful for teachers, trainees, volunteers and leaders of youth organizations.
