Tasks
The main role of volunteer would be assistance to the children, that means to help a child in every situation as well as helping the child in every activity he/she is involved in, f.i. to help a child during lessons, to help to put on clothes and to eat, to play together, to assist in various other activities, to become a friend of a child. What is more, a volunteer could take an active part in organization every day life, help to organize some events, as well as organize any activity or programme he/she is interested in. Anyway, we are open to every new idea and volunteer is welcome to suggest or take part in any activity he/she is interested in. Volunteer during the school year could assist a child in the first or a second part of the day. By the assistance we mean providing direct help to child during activities. In the class there is always 1 teacher and 1 assistant as well sometimes we have students and volunteers from the local community. Volunteer is not left alone with children unless he/she asks for it as a challenge to tests his/her own abilities. Volunteer‘s tasks: To help a child to participate in the lesson – activity. To help a child to develop social skills – to eat, dress up, etc. To help a child to participate in celebrations and various events. To go to the outings with children away from school. To help a child to take part in the afterschool activities. If the volunteer wants to work with adults, his/her tasks would be: To help an adult to participate in the activities. To help an adult to develop social skills – to eat, dress up, etc. To help an adult to participate in celebrations and various events. To go to the outings with adults away from day centre.
Criteria
We have no special requirements for the volunteers. The most important is that a volunteer would like to help a child and not be afraid of severe disabilities. We want a volunteer to understand that children who come in our centre usually don't walk, speak or perceive the world the way it is, that is why it's very important to be tolerant, patient and don't be afraid of people who are different from us.
