Looking for a challenging experience in so many different ways?
‘De Heide’ is an organization for adults with a physical disability, including living and daytime activities. On the one hand, we host young people with a congenital disease who – after a stay in a youth facility – take the steps towards adult life. On the other hand, some people stay with us because of an acquired brain injury by accident.
De Heide’ has no high expectations with regard to the training or experience of the volunteer, but asks especially an enthousiastic commitment. The volunteer must have an open attitude towards people with disabilities and be prepared to work with them. Finally, punctuality is an essential and important competence since ‘structure’ is one of the most important needs of our residents.
- On the one hand we will see the volunteer as a regular staffmember, which means we will treat her on an equal basis with the other members. On the other hand, we are aware of the fact that she is a volunteer and we will not expect as much as from the regular staffmembers. There is a space to grow and develop. It is important for us that the volunteers don’t substitute an employee or staff member, but support the residents where necessary.
- ‘De Heide’ is looking for a volunteer to support the Daytime Activities and Therapy Centre (DAT) with supplementary sporting and/or artistic activities. The DAT-centre offers activities such as crafts, quiz, woodworking, cooking, sports and discussion groups from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4.30 pm. In addition to these group activities, they also offer individual activities (1 on 1) such as: massage, sauna, swimming, cycling or walking, painting, computer courses, etc.
The volunteer is expected to participate in those activities which are in line with his interest, about 3 days per week. In addition, the volunteer is free to use his talents for several other projects: sports and games (classics such as swimming, horse riding, cycling or more adventurous sports such as skiing in a wheelchair, rope courses, kayaking etc.) or artistic and expressive activities (creative arts, theatre, film, music,…). We want to give the volunteer the chance to enhance experience in and knowledge about physical disabilities, the main disability in our centre.
