Project description
“Extremadura Solidarity Corps” is a social project aimed to improve the quality of life of people with fewer opportunities, by organizing leisure and free-time activities with them, such as: sports, handicrafts, drawing, excursions, theatre, workshops of photography, walking, board games... Volunteering activities will be carried out in Plasencia, Spain, from 20 of May 2019 to 20 of March 2020 (10 mounths), in 3 different centers: 1) Placeat. Association for people with intellectual disabilities ( https://placeat.org/ ); 2) Centro Sociosanitario. Psychiatric Hospital for people with mental diseases; 3) Caritas. Organization for people at risk of social exclusión ( http://www.caritasplasencia.org/w/ )
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will live in two apartments located in the center of the city with other european volunteers. Each volunteer will have his/her private room, and common areas to share with other volunteers: kitchen, living room, bathrooms, balcony. They will receive a pocket money of 5 €/day + 120 €/month for food. Volunteers will be given bus tickets to reach the hosting organizations, if needed. They will also have bycicles at their disposal.
Training during the project
The volunteer will participate to on-arrival training and mid-term evaluation provided by the National Agency in Spain. Furthermore he/she will participate in workshops of conversational Spanish provided by the supporting organization and to talks and conferences about voluntary activities provided by the hosting organizations.
Volunteer profile
Youngsters aged 18 to 30 years old, high motivated, willing to help others, to collaborate and with initiative. Interest in intellectual disabilities, mental diseases and people at risk of social exclusion is required. Sport competences and basic Spanish would be appreciated.
