Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
The focus of the role at the Social Integration Centre enables the volunteers to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of the issues facing people with problems. They will be learning to see the individual and their abilities rather than their situation.
The expected learning opportunities for volunteers include gaining experience and/or skills in the following areas:
" Social work & different methodologies in the field of disability: Through the general volunteer role and the work of the organization as a whole, volunteers will gain a deeper understanding and awareness in this area.
"Communication skills: through interaction with the staff and other volunteers and in particular through working closely with the service users.
"Teamwork skills: through living and working within the volunteer team, with the staff team, as part of the wider volunteer team.
" Intercultural awareness: By living and working in an intercultural setting, meeting young people from all over the world.
"Organizational skills: organizing recreational activities for service users, through working with the timetable of the service and the individual service users programs.
CIS is committed to providing training for EVS volunteers to enable them to carry out their role but also to improve their own skills and to allow for access to and involvement with as many aspects of the service's work as possible.
EVS volunteers will receive a full induction and training in the following: Fire safety, Health & Safety, First Aid, Epilepsy awareness, Disability & The Law, Food hygiene, Infection control, Induction to the organization (History, values and what we do).
Volunteers receive certificates for all the trainings they attend, which they can show to future employers.
We hope volunteers will develop solidarity with disadvantage people. They will see the implication of what being disabled means and the inequalities. We hope the volunteers will become active citizens by overcoming prejudice and learn to recognize it in others.
The mentor also organizes monthly meetings with the volunteers as a group, facilitating discussions on disability / culture / and helping the volunteers reflect on what they have learned for the youth pass.
what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the Host Organisation,
the activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the activities/tasks the volunteers could create in your organisation. Please give examples of typical activities for the volunteers.
The volunteer will mainly work in the CIS workshops CIS in Tychy with long-term unemployed, homeless persons carrying out an individual program out of homelessness, people with disabilities, addicted to alcohol after the completion of treatment program. Volunteer will also participate in events, further training and trips to project partners. The volunteer will in the beginning learn all the thematic areas of the CIS. The volunteer has the possibility to specialize during his or her year in CIS on one or more of our main themes according to his or her preferences and skills.
1. Support of international contacts (for volunteers with good communication and foreign language skills)
2. Support in building up and maintaining contact with the European project partners
The volunteer supports the staff in the development and maintenance of contacts with the partner organizations. He or she help in the communication in own mother tongue as well as - depending on skills - possibly in English or German. Communication primarily takes place by e-mail or telephone.
3. Support in the documentation of educational and coaching offers
4.The volunteer supports the team of the CIS. The experience gained from this should be useful in further co-operation. In addition the volunteer takes part in international meetings with the partners to exchange experiences.
5. Work in the educational area (for volunteers with experience and interest in educational area). Work in the development and trying out of training methods
6. Support in PR work. The volunteer can also be involved in the association's PR work. He or she can help in the design of presentations and get to know the Power-Point-Programme in more detail.
7. Support by the internet workshops. In particular volunteers interested in computers have the chance to use and extend their skills in updating the homepage.
8. General tasks:
a) Support in small office tasks. The volunteer helps in small office duties which arise (copying, sending post). We will try to limit this work as much as possible.
The volunteers will mostly work in the center and participate on several events, educational training and trips to project partners. The last thematic area will create a basis of the volunteer`s work (with about 20 % of the working time) and he or she can further concentrate on one or more of the first three areas.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
CIS is looking for volunteers who have a genuine interest in the work of the organization for the disadvantaged people and an affinity with its aims and method. It is also important that volunteers are keen to work with adults with social problems. Volunteers should be sociable and outgoing, and due to the nature of the work they should be flexible and enjoy working with people from different backgrounds than their own.
Young people who will be interested in volunteering in our organization should be willing to work with people who are vulnerable to social exclusion, including people with disabilities, should be characterized by warmth and openness and have the ability to have non-verbal contacts. We welcome people with artistic abilities, manual, musical, dance, cooking, etc., which would encourage participants to develop their own interests, skills and hobbies.Posted by: activeideas
